The following is a list of projects that we have identified as high-priority needs.

Some of these projects can be funded by the Friends, some will require appearing at a Select Board meeting for approval by the town, others may require additional approval steps. We are happy to discuss the details.

If the scout is interested, a recognition plaque can be added for completed projects with a link to a description of the work on this website.

Shed or storage containerObtain or construct a storage shed for maintenance equipment and materials
Mile markersInstall markers every 1/4 mile. We have specifications.
Kiosks with contentConstruct a kiosk at Ice House Rd for display of a map, photos, announcements, and other information. A 2nd kiosk is needed at the Farm Street crossing.
Whistle post restorationStraighten up the 2 whistle posts, patch the missing concrete, paint them black, white and grey, add a sign explaining the purpose of whistle posts.

Bike repair stationInstall a bike repair station at the trail head
Interpretive signsDesign and install interpretive signs for beavers, pollinators, the history of the rail line. We have tentative funding for an interpretive sign about Farm Street Station. As an example, at the bottom of this page there is a document with interpretive signs along the Upper Charles Rail Trail.
Battery box restorationPatch the missing concrete, repair the lid, paint the lid and concrete, add a sign explaining the purpose of battery boxes.
Bridge (to Terabithia)Rebuild the bridge near the beaver dam connecting the rail trail to the Sawmill Brook island trails with a permanent structure. This project requires the filing of a Notice of Intent with the Conservation Commission and DEP on behalf of the town of Medfield.

Exercise station(s)Install outdoor exercise stations at select locations along the trail
Bridge off of School StReplace the half-collapsed bridge off of Wight Street to connect the Sawmill Brook Island trails to the conservation land trail access further up School Street.
